9 ways to deliver safely when a dog is present
We deliver to a lot of customers and our drivers come across a fair amount of dogs. Most of them are friendly but it is always important to be cautious when approaching a dog that you don’t know.
Approaching an unknown dog can be a bit tricky, as dogs have different personalities and may react differently to strangers. Here are a few tips that our drivers use to approach an unknown dog safely:
Always ask the owner's permission before petting or approaching their dog
Let the dog sniff your hand first before petting them
Avoid direct eye contact with the dog, as it can be perceived as a challenge
Move slowly and calmly, avoid sudden movements
Avoid reaching over the dog's head or cornering the dog
Offer the dog a closed fist to sniff instead of an open hand
If the dog seems uncomfortable or shows signs of aggression, back away slowly and give them space
Remember that a dog's behaviour can be influenced by its environment, training, and health
Never approach a stray dog
These tips help our drivers every day to approach unknown dogs safely.
